Registration is open and if you or your school can afford it, it is a very good investment.  This flyer has more information regarding cost and registration.

The cost to attend is $5 for morning tea.

What a lovely way to start off the year; meeting with colleagues and talking about innovative ways to support our students and staff in a lovely brand spanking new BER library.

I must firstly thank Haroula Zouganelis and of course her very supportive Principal, James Reid for letting us visit and host our first meeting for the year.

BlogEd & Xtranormal workshops

Deirdre Ratcliffe introduced Xtranormal and how this movie maker application could be used to innovate programs focussing on persuasive language by using storyboarding and film making to engage students.

Lisa Haller ran a hands on session as a follow up to the session last year that introduced BlogEd within the context of the school library.   TLs were given a chance to ‘play around’ with support from each other, to develop or edit their blogs using BlogEd. Ways in which blogs can be included in the school library session was also covered and examples viewed.

Connections with Public Libraries

The Place of the book in the ebook age – Paul McDonald from the Children’s Bookshop.

Congratulations must be given to Michael Fraser from Haberfield Public School who does a superb job and makes the day for hundreds of school students and teachers who get to meet their favourite authors.

 The event started with the very exciting raffle draws and then the very funny Mr Andrew White who was the MC for the day. Andrew White introduced the authors, Deborah Abela, Christopher Cheng , Marcelle Bernard and Libby Hathorn, who all gave speeches about being writers and what inspires them to write. As well as listening to speeches, each table of students were joined by an author or illustrator with whom the students enjoyed a meal and had the opportunity to find out more about them.

We were extremely lucky to have lunch with Duncan Ball but had to get in quick as the lines of students who also wanted to speak to him started to grow. It was very interesting to find out how authors wrote their books, how they became writers and to learn of their experiences at school.

After lunch students had the opportunity to meet authors and illustrators from other tables in order to get books signed and to have a chat.

The venue, Burwood RSL, was amazing. The students I took were in awe at how fancy it all was and felt very special, especially when their meals came out on a plate with real knives and forks! 

I little birdie told me that it is going to be even bigger and better next year…I don’t know how, but I can’t wait!
